Scene 5:
The three have moved into the kitchen, Harper leans against a counter drinking a hot beverage while Bastien finishes preparing two others. Harper asks the woman what things she can’t remember, to which she responds how does he expect her to know what she has forgotten if she has already forgotten it? Bastien interrupts their banter by handing the woman a cup of tea and inquires if she remember him at all? If he seems familiar? The woman shakes her head no, he is a complete stranger to her. Bastien beings to explain the he is her- but then seems lost for words. Not thinking much of it, Harper helpfully supplies that Bastien is her doctor.
The woman accepts the drink Bastien holds out to her, however, after taking a sip, she almost spits it out. She insists that it is terrible, what had he put in it? Bastien seems surprised, cream and four sugars, he admits, the way he has always made it. The woman shakes her head to apologise, but insists that it is far far too sweet for her taste. Still looking confused Bastien suggests that maybe that is the amnesia talking? But the woman continues to shake her head, no, she may not remember much but she is positive that she has never liked sweet things. Abruptly, she asks Harper what he is drinking. Harper is drinking black coffee, he asks her if she would like to try that instead. She does and Harper hands her his cup. The woman is immediately much happier with this drink. Harper tells her to keep it, he and Bastien needed to have a word in private. Harper takes Bastien's arm and leads him from the room.
